Plucked on the auspicious day of Buddha Jayanti (the birth date of Lord Buddha), Pramila's Hope* is filled with one thing - HOPE. Frankly, this is not our best tea and I want you to drink this tea for NOT what it is but for what it could become. This tea is was produced in one of the most difficult times for the tea bushes i.e. right in the middle of the end of the first flush and almost the start of the second flush! The conditions are brutal, the tea plants have given up all they can during their first flush and are almost out of energy and want to go on a 15-day dormancy period before they start their most productive harvest, the second flush. Therefore, this tea is filled with all the hopes and aspirations to bring out the best despite the conditions and timing and really sacrifice itself to allow the second flush to thrive and bring out the most it possibly can!

That was exactly the story of Pramila - the middle child; she was always the most competitive, the brutally independent go-getter! She fought her way through some of the greatest medical challenges as a child and become a shining star of the family with medals and certificates from writing competitions to athletics. She had one of the most difficult times getting an education (since educating girls were not a norm during her childhood) but she fought for it with all the strength from an eastern impoverished village to state universities in the USA. She was a trend setter for all the siblings and chose to sacrifice anything and everything for her husband, 2 dear sons, 4 parents and 7 siblings and essentially everyone who touched her life! The selfless women who forgot about herself and diverted all the energy towards the next generation.

With all this sacrifice, she did not pause but fought for her hopes and dreams. She worked tirelessly as a nurse for more than a decade with a service soul at heart and later took that service to a whole new level by providing much needed financial education to middle to lower income families. If you saw her as she was in surface, you’d see a tired face, bagged eyes and dark circles but all of them were the scars of her larger than life aspirations and hopes for the next generation and also for herself. This tea is dedicated to Pramila’s hopes and dreams! Though this tea might look a bit weary, this tea will fill you up with a glimmer of hope to move forward, take that one step to make your own hopes and dreams a reality.

Her later part of life was fully invested in spreading financial literacy to the middle and lower income families all over the world. Therefore, 100% of the profits from the sale of the this particular tea will be donated towards programs/non-profit organizations that work specifically towards financial literacy for women and other marginalized communities in Nepal.

Some of Pramila’s other hopes and dreams were:

To publish a children’s book documenting the early writing pieces her two sons had created
To document her father’s and mother’s true story and create a documentary
To start a old-age home in Nepal to take care of the elders
To start a non-profit organization to support the healthcare system in Nepal
To start a women-empowerment network to get more women into finance
To get into politics and really create long-term change in Nepal
To live life in an RV and travel all across the USA

I am so sorry to hear about the tragic accident and the family’s loss of Pramila. I met her and husband Ram when they lived in Connecticut with their two boys.
I bought tea from their store and thought they both were such nice people. My heart is broken for those she left behind. She was such a hardworking lady. My prayers go out for her family.
I bought the Rembance tea in honor of her dreams.
